The number of officially registered foreign citizens living in Tachikawa is 3,298 as of January 1, 2015. This figure represents approximately 1.84% of the total population (Fig.3-1). The overall proportion of foreigners in Japan has become 1.62% (as of end of 2013). The number of foreign citizens had increased to Heisei 22 (2010), but subsequently decreased, and then started to increase again in Heisei 27 (2015).

Number of foreigners refers to the Alien Registration before 2012. Number of foreigners refers to the Basic Resident Register after 2013.
The number of foreigners according to the nationalities is described below. Chinese (including Taiwanese) are the largest population of 1,556, following Korean and then people of the Philippines (Fig.3-2). The number of nationalities is 61.
